Our Dream Wedding at Great Tangley Manor
2nd November 2016, New York. After a romantic walk through Central Park I finally plucked up the courage to propose to my partner of seven years, Nancy. The ring didn’t quite fit, but she said yes nevertheless!
Having originally settled on a Christmas wedding the following year, we had a change of heart and decided to tie the knot in the spring of 2018. We were looking for an intimate wedding venue within the Guildford/Godalming area – preferably one that wouldn’t break the bank!
The majority of places we looked at were huge, wedding-specific venues with hideously expensive packages. After hours of research, I somewhat stumbled across Great Tangley Manor’s website. I have to confess we’d never heard of it before, but we were immediately blown away by its grandeur. Even better, it was just a 10 minute drive from our newly purchased home in Witley.
The 1,000-year-old Manor offers intimate wedding ceremonies for up to 16 people, with plush accommodation for up to 12. The best part? You have the entire venue to yourself for the whole weekend! Not only does this include exclusive use of the main house and its lovingly maintained gardens, you also have your very own heated, indoor swimming pool and outdoor tennis court.
What’s the catch? It must be horrendously expensive? Think again! Great Tangley offers a variety of affordable, flexible wedding packages
that allow you to tailor your wedding to suit your own needs. They even offer a very reasonable ceremony-only package should you wish to stay elsewhere.
We opted for the ‘Classic Package’, which gave us exclusive use of the Manor from 4pm on the Friday until 6pm on the Sunday. This allowed us to accommodate 12 guests for both nights and host an intimate wedding ceremony on the Saturday, followed by canapes and a glass of house champagne for 16 people. The total price (under £5,000!) also included a professional photographer throughout the ceremony and in the beautiful gardens afterwards.
Our initial intention was to have our evening reception elsewhere, but having visited the Manor and seen it first hand we were in no doubt where we wanted to host our 40 evening guests. Tangley’s stunning courtyard and award-winning ‘glass box‘
are perfect for hosting an elegant evening soiree, with plenty of space in the neighbouring drawing room and library should the weather dictate otherwise.
We chose our own food suppliers and live music, however the team are more than happy to help with recommendations. A list of local caterers
can be found on their website.
If you’re looking for an intimate, exclusive, yet affordable wedding venue in the Surrey Hills, we couldn’t recommend Great Tangley Manor enough. Just email firstname.lastname@example.org for more details. Anne, Glyn and Nicho are so helpful!
